Summer Maintenance Tips for Spa Owners: How to Keep Your Spa from Overheating

Spas are made to retain heat, unfortunately sometimes too well. Running your filtration cycles for longer periods of time when the ambient temperature exceeds 100 degrees can cause the spa to overheat and shut down automatically.

These are the steps you can take to adjust filtration settings and prevent your spa’s water temp from rising during peak times of the summer/daytime heat.

  1. Make sure the spa is in filtration mode.
  2. Filtration time should be set to run during the coolest time of day or night.
  3. Set filtration to the minimum setting of 1 hour. Some controls will allow to turn off filter 2 setting.
  4. Open the cover regularly to allow built-up heat to escape.
  5. When the outside temps drop late summer and early fall, don’t forget to resume normal filtration settings.

Here are other essential summer maintenance tips you can use to keep your spa in optimal condition.

  • Even if hot tub use goes down over the summer, you still need to check and maintain your hot tub every 2-3 weeks.
  • Summer is a great time to treat your cabinet and cover, reconditioning the cabinet and adding a layer of UV protection.
  • Ask your dealer or service professional about performing a general inspection of the equipment area, making sure everything is in good working order.
